De Coulissen is a new landmark for Eindhoven's Buurtschap te Veld district, an iconic structure where locals come together. The seemingly simple design features surprising interactive elements that residents can activate throughout the year.
From a distance, the pavilion's three large walls emerge from the open landscape as a true eye-catcher, emphasizing sightlines and walking paths. At night, the integrated light beacons serve as a point of orientation.
The temporary nature of the neighborhood development guided the design approach. The pavilion is designed for disassembly after a minimum of ten years, with materials selected for their potential reuse. Using sustainable, standard-sized construction materials with minimal processing, this design reduces material waste, shortens the construction time, and ensures future reusability.
The pavilion's structural elements become expressive design features, with a network of posts, beams, and braces treated with pigmented oil that remains subtly visible through the regular rhythm of the exterior elements.
